TURNINGS BRIQUETTES

TURNING BRIQUETTES

Using a briquetting machine, stray metal chips are compressed into compact pucks (briquettes) that are up to 99 percent dry.

When comparing loose scrap to briquettes, briquettes are easier to store, leave less residual oil, and can bring in more money. However, instead of briquetting, many shops still utilise a centrifuge/wringer to spin fluid from chips. This is because, if a shop’s main goal is to reclaim and save cutting fluid, a wringer is almost certainly the best option. Wet chips are swiftly turned into dry chips using these technologies.

When cutting fluid savings aren’t the primary goal, but scrap volume is significant and transportation costs are a concern due to shipping longer distances, then decreasing the amount of cutting fluid used is the best option.

The Benefits of Briquetting Metal Maching Scrap

  • Increases the value of metal chips and, as a result, the revenue stream.
  • We get $0.17 per pound more for our briquetted material over loose chips, based on current prices and the density of the test briquettes. The coolant we collect and recycle from this procedure saves us roughly $5,000 per year, in addition to the additional revenue from the briquetted material. — Martin-Baker Johnstown’s Jack Rovan
  • Reduces the risk of contamination from other materials.
  • Briquettes are up to 99 percent dry, which means they don’t leak cutting fluids while they’re moved around the facility or carried away.
  • Eliminates the need for drying racks or centrifugal dryers, which are both expensive handling operations.
  • Compact chips have a smaller volume than loose chips, making them easier to transport, store, and handle.
  • Leads for swarf briquetting
